Bison Maldives has signed an agreement to develop a 60-room eco-beach hotel on Gan Island in Laamu Atoll. Laamu Atoll is recognised as a model for sustainable tourism, where tourism offerings are grounded in marine conservation, sustainable local economic development, training, and community engagement — principles that will underpin the new hotel’s design.
Officially launched on 13th May 2025 and scheduled for completion by 1st December 2026, the project aims to diversify tourism in L. Gan. The hotel will be built with environmentally sensitive materials, with structures carefully set back from the shoreline to preserve natural beaches and vegetation. Drawing inspiration from Laamu’s cultural heritage, the design will offer guests authentic local experiences through heritage exploration and artisan engagement.
Bison Maldives will prioritise local employment, training, and sourcing, providing opportunities for surrounding communities and reinforcing Laamu’s role as a blueprint for responsible tourism development. Once complete, the eco-beach hotel is expected to set a new benchmark for sustainable tourism in the Maldives.
